Walter Drew McCaw, 1863-1939, was a career Army medical officer. After training at the Medical School of Virginia and Columbia University Medical School, he joined the Army Medical Department in 1884. He served in various posts in the west and south, in Cuba during the Spanish American war, and in the Philippines afterward. He was appointed director of the Library on October 3, 1903. Walter Drew McCaw (b. Feb. 10, 1863, Richmond, Virginia-d. July 7, 1939), Brigadier General and Assistant Surgeon General, U.S.A., graduated from medical school and began his military career in 1884. He served in the campaign of Santiago de Cuba and in the Philippines, and later became chief surgeon, Division of the Philippines, and chief surgeon, American Expeditionary Forces in 1918 and 1919.
